The OO-HO_Scratch_Steam mailing list has been initiated
because it is felt that the present model railway newsgroups
provide but little coverage of this aspect of the hobby. By
necessity, the title of this mailing list is restricted in length
but the list is meant to embrace all the smaller "indoor scales"
such as N, Z, On2, O16.5, HO3, HOn2.5 etc. which feature steam
motive power. Model railroading is many things to many people and
it is with considerable admiration that the efforts of the scenic,
operating and plain collecting devotees are viewed. These more
numerous folk seem to be well catered for by other mailing lists or
newsgroups but the enthusiast whose main enjoyment comes from the
construction of miniature steam-outline electrically driven
locomotives, is less better served. It is hoped that this
mailing-list will
help to bring together those builders of such models, hobbyists
across
the world, who are equally model engineers and miniature railway
modellers. Of course, it is appreciated that they are perhaps, a
dying
breed, but that very fact would seem to make it all the more
imperative that there is an exchange of "know-how" before all is
lost.
Any wrinkles that you may feel like sharing, or any queries that you
might have and for which you feel that another modeller might be able
to
offer some advice, should be sent to the list and if appropriate will
be
added to this FAQ. Because this is a new mailing-list and because he
is
obliged to pursue his hobby with only the very minimum of contact
with
others of like bent, the originator has initally cited mainly from
his own experience, and the FAQ is consequently as yet very basic.
It is hoped that interested persons will subscribe and offer
further advice and suggestions derived from their own particular
situation, and thereby enhance the usefulness of the mailing list.
